Shelly WiFi switch for chair

Last updated: 14. July, 2025

Shelly WiFi switches can be connected behind the existing button in the dental chair to trigger predefined calls in the “echo charlie” environment. The integration of the switch involves the following steps:

  1. Install Shelly Wifi switch
  2. Integrate switches in the Shelly app and define them as buttons
  3. Define call to “echo charlie” and read webhook
  4. Save webhook on the switch

IMPORTANT: The Shelly WiFi switches only operate on the 2.4GHz WiFi network. Make sure that your router is broadcasting this frequency on its own WiFi network (SSID).

Procedure for triggering a call

When the button in the chair is pressed, a webhook is sent via the WiFi switch, which then triggers a call in your “echo charlie” system.

1. install Shelly Wifi switch

IMPORTANT: Modifications and the installation of switches in treatment chairs should only be carried out by certified technicians.

Specifications and connection diagrams for the Shelly Plus 1 can be found on the official Shelly product website. The type and location of connection varies depending on the chair brand. We will be happy to advise you on this via the support channel.

2. integrate the Shelly Wifi switch into the Shelly app

When connected to a power supply, the switch creates an access point. Then install the Shelly Smart Control app(Android, iOS) on a mobile device (tablet or smartphone) and open a free user account. In the dashboard, click on the plus in the blue circle (1):

IMPORTANT: Make sure that the mobile device is connected to the network to which you also want to connect the switch and make sure that Bluetooth is switched on on the mobile device.

1

Select the “Add via Bluetooth“(2) and click on “Next“:

2

The app should now connect to the switch. Select the switch (3) and click on “Next“:

3

The switch should now connect to the same network as the mobile device. If not, enter the network information (SSID and password) (4) and click on “+ Add device“:

4

After a successful connection, you will be asked to give the switch a name of your choice (5) and to assign an image (6). Define these and click on “Next“:

5
6

You will then be asked to assign the button to a room. You can use an existing room or create a new one (7). This has no influence on functionality, but is only used for categorization within the app:

TIP: Name the switch after the room in which it is located.

7

The switch is now connected to the network and integrated in your Shelly Smart Control app. You will find it in “My home” (8) and in the room you defined when you added it:

8

The switch must now be defined as a button. To do this, click on the switch in the app to open its menu and then on Settings (8; gear symbol). Under “Input/Output settings”, select “Button” (9), as well as the 4th point (10) in the rely type segment and the 3rd point (11) in the rely power segment:

11

The switch now acts as a button.

3. define call to "echo charlie" and read out webhook

Note: We will now copy a URL from one app to another. Therefore, use the same mobile device for the next step as in section 2.

Trigger the call – which you want to trigger by pressing the chair button – in your “echo charlie” message interface. Then click on more options for the call. Click on the 3 dots to open a pop-up from which you can copy the webhook:

4. save webhook on the switch

Return to the Shelly Smart Control app and click on “Actions” (12; bracket symbol) and “Add action” (13) in the switch settings

12
13

Give this action a name – ideally what the call contains (e.g. Help OP5). Then click on Next:

We can skip the setting for the active time. Click on “Next”

Now we define the condition. For this example, we select the condition “Button is pushed” (14) from the dropdown and then click on “Next”:

NOTE: You can add up to 4 conditions/actions per switch: press once, press twice, press three times or press and hold. For this example, we select the condition press once.

14

Now insert the webhook generated in section 3 from “echo charlie” (15) and click on “Save“:

15

Finally, make sure that the action is activated: the slider to the left of the action should be activated (16):

16

A simple click on the button on the chair should now trigger the call defined in section 3 in “echo charlie”.
